Planning for Mental Health Crises

Event Recording

Background: Working with clients and family members with serious mental illness can be challenging and unpredictable. On April 25th, 2023, we hosted an interactive panel event that provided tools to plan for crises, and specialized information on mental illness in older adults.

Dr. Jaclyn Ghamar presented a tool for professionals, caretakers, and individuals with mental illness to use in planning for mental health crises. The tool can help you engage in conversations before crisis occurs, including identifying early warning signs and helpful coping strategies. Dr. Katherine Goettsche discussed special considerations when working with older adults with mental illness, including the relationship between mental illness, cognition, and physical health.

Panelists:

  • Jaclyn Ghamar, Psy.D., Licensed Psychologist

  • Katherine Goettsche, M.D., Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, Weill Cornell Medical College
