Serious physical disabilities, limitations, or disease can have a great impact on a person’s lives and may cause them to require the assistance of others on a daily or frequent basis. Physical limitations are particularly prevalent and impact the life of older adults during the natural course of aging.
For example, an individual may have severe Type II diabetes and their vision has become impaired. Or they may have had a stroke causing a diminishment in their physical strength and leaving them unable to do household chores. Perhaps the stroke was severe, greatly limiting their mobility so that they must now use a wheelchair or are confined to their bed.
